About the Tinman Triathlon:
This year marks the 37th year of the annual Tinman Triathlon, which is often called “Honolulu’s People’s Triathlon” and is considered one of the top Honolulu Activities of the year for athletes. The Tinman Triathlon was inspired by the Ironman Triathlon in Kona, on the Big Island, and was started by 4 outdoorsmen who wanted to experience doing a triathlon but could not spend the months of full-time training that is typically required of such a race.

Along with 10 other friends, the men had participated in the tri-aerobic swim-bike-run combination in Kona, back in 1979. They competed, were challenged, and had fun. While sipping a few cool ones after the race, the group speculated that other athletes might enjoy doing a Event with them that was demanding, but didn’t need as much preparation time. They created the Tinman Triathlon, one of the top Honolulu Events today for runners, bikers, and swimmers, which sees about 1,200 men and women participating each year.

If you are participating in the Tinman Triathlon and need a Waikiki Hotel to stay at near Kapiolani Park where this fun Honolulu Event takes place, consider Ambassador Hotel – A Waikiki Hotel. We are a top choice of Waikiki Accommodations when you want to be near the best Honolulu Activities like playing on Waikiki Beaches, dining at Restaurants in Waikiki, and more.

Why you should watch the Tinman Triathlon:

These triathletes inspire most everyone who watches them. They compete in a safe, fun, and pride-filled Event that embodies the spirit of a traditional triathlon but without the lengthy, pre-conditioning commitment. Tinman is not meant to be an “elite” race, but rather a fun triathlon for every interested athlete.

Participants compete in Elite, Age Group, Physically-Challenged, and Team (Male, Female, or Co-Ed) divisions.
