The Waikiki Roughwater Swim is a great opportunity to enjoy one of the many Oahu Events that makes our island so special. The Waikiki Roughwater Swim was the inspiration for the swim leg of the Hawaiian Ironman triathlon and the Double Roughwater. It takes participants on a 2.4 mile journey out of the Kapua Channel (Outrigger Canoe Club) starting at Sans Souci Beach (Kaimana Beach), and across the waters of Waikiki (by the Natatorium). There will be staggered starts at 5-minute intervals, beginning at 9 a.m.
To reduce crowding at the start, the field of swimmers is divided into groups of approximately 150 to 200 people, based upon entry times. The fastest swimmers will be in the first group and slower swimmers in the succeeding groups, on a first-come, first-served basis. Swimmers cross a finish line that is 20-30 meters up the beach from the water’s edge, and to finish, participants must complete the race in less than 2 hours and 40 minutes.
