About the Prince Lot Hula Festival:
The Prince Lot Hula Festival was founded in 1978 in honor of King Kamehameha, Prince Lot. The Festival quickly became one of the local favorite Oahu Events on our island and was beloved by tourists as well. This July 19th, if you’re wondering What to do on Oahu, we suggest you visit the Price Lot Hula Festival and enjoy a little piece of Hawaiian tradition near our Waikiki Hotel.
The Prince Lot Hula Festival takes place at Moanalua Gardens, Prince Lot’s favorite recreation spot. It attracts more than 10,000 residents and visitors each year, making it one of the top annual Oahu Events on the island.
Price Lot is credited with reviving the hula in the district of Moanalua. The Prince Lot Hula Festival offers a unique celebration of Prince Lot’s life, including a look at his summer cottage (which can be found on the Garden’s grounds).

Why you should attend the Prince Lot Hula Festival:
This year, the theme for the Annual Prince Lot Hula Festival is “Kila Kila O Moanalua… Majestic is Moanalua.” The Festival will once again be the largest non-competitive hula event in Hawaii, and it beautifully honors Prince Lot, who brought the once-forbidden dance back to the people of Moanalua.
A historic and cultural treasure, Moanalua Gardens is one of the most beautiful Oahu Attractions and it’s definitely a “must-visit” Attraction near our Waikiki Hotel. The Gardens are home to several famous structures and rare trees, including the renowned “Hitachi” tree. Moanalua’s grandeur has long amazed Hawaii locals and visitors, which makes the theme for this year’s Hula Festival quite fitting. Majestic is not a grand enough word for this Event, which speaks so much about the beauty of the area.
Interesting facts about the Prince Lot Hula Festival:
- The theme mele (song) for the Prince Lot Hula Festival, “Kila Kila O Moanalua,” was composed by Pililua after Samuel Mills Damon sank the first well in Moanalua and piped water to the gardens, nourishing the aina (land), the people, trees, and flowers.
